Dr. Jad Mourad is a Florida native who was born and raised in the suburbs of Jacksonville. During his adolescence, Dr. Mourad was diagnosed with Hereditary Gingival Fibromatosis, a rare oral condition that prevented his adult teeth from fully erupting. This condition required him to undergo multiple rounds of orthodontic treatment and numerous periodontal surgeries throughout his teenage years and into adulthood. While these challenges might have deterred many, Dr. Mourad’s experiences provided him with unique insight into the importance of a multi-disciplinary dental team and sparked a deep interest in dentistry. Although the complexities of his condition were beyond his understanding at the time, the care and education provided by his dedicated dentist-periodontist-orthodontist team helped him manage his gum condition and navigate the psychosocial challenges it brought. This compassionate care instilled in him a profound appreciation for oral health and a desire to help others facing similar issues.
Driven by his adventurous nature, Dr. Mourad left Florida to pursue his dental education at the prestigious Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He then expanded his horizons by moving to the West Coast, completing a hospital-based dental residency in Portland, Oregon at Oregon Health & Science University. During this time, he provided care to underserved and medically complex patients in the Northwest, further solidifying his commitment to compassionate patient care. After completing his General Practice Residency, Dr. Mourad returned to the East Coast and practiced as a general dentist in the Greater Boston area. There, he was able to help build long-term relationships with his patients while guiding them through their dental journeys.
Over time, Dr. Mourad found himself increasingly drawn to surgical cases and collaborating with specialists to achieve the best outcomes for his patients. Reflecting on his experiences as a young patient, he understood the anxiety that can accompany complex dental treatments. This empathy shaped his approach as a dental professional, ultimately leading him to specialize in Periodontology at Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. His time at BU allowed him to integrate his experiences and knowledge, becoming the kind of periodontist he once relied on during his own treatments.
As a periodontist at Monadnock Perio and Implant Center, Dr. Mourad’s goal is to ensure every patient feels heard and comfortable. Understanding the vulnerability of being in the dental chair, he strives to provide a supportive and reassuring experience. Dr. Mourad was ultimately drawn to the compassionate and tailored care provided by Dr. Tae Kwon and his team at MPIC, as well as the welcoming community spirit of Keene and Peterborough, NH.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Mourad is a family man. He enjoys spending time with his husband, Schuyler, who is also a dentist in the Monadnock area, their Maltese-Chihuahua rescue named Tuna, and their two sibling cats, Milo and Miley. Dr. Mourad also loves trying new things and has enjoyed getting to know the down-to-earth people of Keene and Peterborough! Though his career has taken him across the country, Dr Jad has never felt as at home as he does in the Monadnock region.
